How BSAPE Certification Works
A Certification Body Built on Published Standards
BSAPE is a professional certification body. Our role is to assess engineers against independently published certification standards and, where the evidence supports it, to award professional certification at one of three certificate types.
We do not deliver training, and we do not award academic qualifications. BSAPE certification is based on an assessment of professional experience and practice in a defined engineering discipline.
Our standards define the scope of each engineering discipline we certify in, the criteria that apply to each certificate type, and the evidence we require from applicants. Standards are reviewed periodically and approved by the BSAPE Technical Advisory Board.
Published & Transparent
BSAPE's certification criteria are published in full. Any engineer can review the standard before applying, so there are no surprises in assessment.
Independent Panel Assessment
Every application is assessed by an independent panel of at least two experienced engineers. No single assessor decides a certification outcome alone.
Discipline-Specific Standards
BSAPE maintains six discipline-specific certification standards. Each covers a defined scope of engineering practice and sector application.
Credential Marks
Certified engineers carry BSAPE credential marks (COC-BSAPE, COS-BSAPE, COA-BSAPE), publicly verifiable on the BSAPE online register.
Continuous Review
Certification standards are reviewed against current industry practice, regulatory developments, and emerging technical areas.
Online Verification
Every BSAPE certification is publicly verifiable at app.bomeqp.com/verify-certificate — real-time confirmation for employers and operators.
Discipline Standards
Six Engineering Certification Standards
Each standard covers a defined scope of engineering practice. Engineers are assessed and certified within one or more disciplines based on their professional experience.

Certificate Types
Three Certificate Types of Professional Certification
BSAPE issues certification across three certificate types reflecting different levels of professional experience and engineering responsibility.
Certificate of Completion
Entry-level professional certification for engineers demonstrating foundational technical experience in their discipline. Suitable for early-career professionals building their track record.
Certificate of Skill
Professional certification for experienced engineers who exercise independent technical judgement, take accountability for engineering decisions and outputs, and demonstrate technical leadership within their discipline.
Certificate of Achievement
The highest BSAPE certificate type. Awarded to engineers who have made an exceptional and sustained contribution to the engineering profession over a distinguished career.
How to Apply
The BSAPE Certification Process
Select Your Discipline and Certificate Type
Review the BSAPE certification standards for your discipline and identify which certificate type best reflects your current level of professional experience.
Prepare Your Application
Submit a professional experience statement describing your engineering work, responsibilities, and professional activities. For higher certificate types, a detailed career narrative is required.
Professional References
Provide contact details for two professional referees who can confirm your engineering experience and professional standing.
Panel Review
Your application is assessed by an independent panel of at least two BSAPE-certified engineers. The panel may request clarification or an interview.
Certification Issued
On successful assessment, your BSAPE certification is issued with your credential marks, a Verifiable Digital Credential, and entry in the online BSAPE register.
